With “guesstimates” of over $100 million for its strengthening and pleas that it be heritage-listed, the debate over the future of Wellington’s central library is heating up.

On Friday Wellington City Council CEO Kevin Lavery released a statement saying any decisions on the library were well over a year away.

Two days later Mayor Justin Lester decided to leap into the debate with his own “charter” promising to save the library, plus fold Capital E and the National Theatre for Children into it as well.
