2020 was a year that saw millions of us spend months on end staring at the ceiling of their own home, longing to be somewhere else.
For those times while some were confined to as little as a 5km radius, dreaming of times where travel was still an option, there is little worse than talk of the home space, or lack thereof.
The COVID-19 pandemic forced us to get to know our interior abodes, so it goes without saying, that we all feel like we would wish for some extra space, or an extra room.

While celebrities continued to sell and buy at their heart’s content during 2020, it appeared that the high-end luxury real estate market slowed down.
While lockdown made pricey pads the go-to destination for those with a disposable income to hide away at, many are still reluctant to part with such exorbitant amounts of money to buy them — and when you see the asking price of these homes, it’s easy to see why.
From America to Fiji, to France and Hong Kong, these are 15 of most expensive homes in the world that are hit the market this year.
15. The Beverly House, Beverly Hills, California – $159 million

If you recognise the property, you’re not alone. The home featured in the iconic 1992 film The Bodyguard, as well as The Godfather when movie producer Jack Woltz wakes up next to a severed horse head. And as if that wasn’t enough to see this estate rack up the offers from interested buyers, it even served as the backdrop for Beyoncé’s musical film Black Is King.
14. Palazzo di Amore, Beverly Hills, California – $172 million

This mega-mansion covers a staggering 4,650 sqm and was once considered the most expensive homes in the US at $172 million. If the price seems excessive, just wait until you hear the features on offer: there’s a 10,000-bottle wine cellar, a 1,160 sqm, in-home entertainment complex with bowling alley, theatre and ballroom and it even has its own rotating dance floor.
Outside, there’s a separate guesthouse, swimming pool and another pool, tennis court, and gardens.
13. Green Gables, Woodside, California – $181 million

The estate sits on 74 acres of land in Woodside and boasts a real slice of history, with the original home remaining since it was originally built back in 1911.
The grounds are home to trails that wind through the redwoods, with stunning oaks and eucalyptus and if a slice of nature always leaves you thirsty, there’s even a Michelin star pub that comes with the place.
12. Le Palais Venitien, France – $196 million

This mansion takes its cues from the city of Venice, with stunning architecture and sweeping views. Situated on nearly six acres, the palace looks out over the Mediterranean and features stately columns and arches reminiscent of those found along the Grand Canal.
