The housing price gap between Auckland and Wellington just narrowed but they’re cheap compared to the Queenstown area, where $1 million buys an average home.
New figures from Realestate.co.nz show that the Central Otago/Lakes area – essentially Queenstown and surrounds – surged in May asking prices by 9.8 per cent on a month earlier, pushing it past the $1m-plus average asking price.
Auckland’s asking price had dropped by almost 3 per cent but at $875,476 was still New Zealand’s second-most-expensive place to call home, followed by Coromandel on $745,852.
