EQC has shifted the goalposts on Wellington apartment owners, leaving them struggling to plug a $2.3m insurance hole and setting a “potentially devastating” precedent for other apartment buildings.
The residents of Marion Square’s 40 apartments have had to extend mortgages, raid retirement funds and empty savings accounts to fund the shortfall created by EQC’s decision to change the way it covered their mixed residential/commercial building.
