The cost of using motels for emergency housing is ratcheting up, with the Government granting $23 million in just the first three months of this year.
Over the past year the cost of social housing grants has ballooned. In the first three months of 2018, $6.57m was granted for emergency housing to 2123 clients. In same period this year, the number of clients receiving the grants almost doubled to 4090 and the cost of the grants rose to $23 million.
The mean cost per grant has also increased over the same period – from $1071 to $1337.
