Melbourne-based entrepreneur Bijan Tehrani, a prominent figure in the crypto casino industry, has acquired a distinguished New York residence for over A$70 million. The property, once belonging to renowned American banker David Rockefeller, was purchased for $72.9 million (US$47 million) as reported by The Wall Street Journal. Tehrani, co-founder of online gaming site Stake.com with Ed Craven from Melbourne, secured the five-story, eight-bedroom, 12-bathroom Colonial Revival masterpiece constructed in Manhattan in 1924.

Described as “one of the finest townhouses in New York City,” the residence boasts elegant sitting rooms, a spacious drawing room, a large dining room with views of an English garden, a vast kitchen, two service kitchens, a skylit spiral center staircase, and eight fireplaces. The property also features front and backyard gardens, a first-floor terrace, a rooftop patio with a fire pit and al fresco dining area, a golf simulator room, a gym, and an elevator connecting all five floors. Noteworthy security measures include ballistic (bulletproof) windows and walls, safe room bedrooms, and comprehensive camera coverage throughout the home.

Previously owned by Rockefeller for 70 years, the mansion was sold in 2018 for A$31 million (US$20 million) to a former adviser to US President Bill Clinton. Tehrani’s acquisition makes it the most expensive townhouse sold in Manhattan this year. Tehrani, an American residing in Melbourne, is a key player in Stake.com, recognized as the world’s largest crypto casino.

The purchase of the Rockefeller mansion elevates Tehrani into the real estate big league alongside his business partner Craven. Craven gained attention in August 2022 when he acquired a “ghost mansion” in Toorak for $88 million, following his earlier purchase of a nearby home for $38.5 million. In January, Craven and Tehrani, through Stake.com, finalized a $140 million sponsorship deal, securing the lead sponsorship for the Formula 1 team, Alfa Romeo, spanning a three-year period.
