Last year’s “challenge” apartment, in the former Gatwick building in St Kilda, was not sold at auction with the other renovated units but was offered as a prize.

Mother of five Samantha Bolton bought a copy of a Monopoly – The Block Special Edition game and was lucky enough to score the “golden ticket” to the luxury home.

But the distance between states was too far to move, said listing agent David Wood, director of Hocking Stuart Albert Park.

“They’re in Sydney and they contemplated potentially moving the family here,” Mr Wood told Domain on Tuesday.

“They eventually decided it wasn’t right for them as a family in Melbourne because their life’s in Sydney.

“And it wasn’t right for them as an investment.”

He introduced a local Melbourne buyer and the home changed hands off-market.
