A shortage in sections in Marlborough has developers looking to divvy up the quarter-acre dream, leaving Gerard Coffey with a yard full of old villas.
Coffey House Removals owner operator Gerard Coffey said he had noticed an increase in developers moving homes so they could subdivide, and his yard had grown as a result.
”A quarter-acre block used to be the Kiwi dream, but lifestyles have changed and people are too busy to look after a big property,” Coffey said.
“So you get a place with one big old house planted on the centre of a site, and it’s hard to subdivide around that … Sometimes you can just move the house to the back of the site and build on the front. But we have three sites right now where we’re taking a house off so all new ones can be built.”
