PHOTO: BARFOOT & THOMPSON – The Kohimarama house designed and lived in by the late architect Rewi Thompson has been sold after record numbers of people turned up to the open homes.
Completely hidden from above, the abandoned Kohimarama, Auckland, house built and lived in by the late architect Rewi Thompson has been sold by tender.
Listing agent Will Gluestein of Barfoot & Thompson says the house, which was never quite finished, attracted record numbers through the open homes.
“We had 298 groups through, 42 private viewings, 29,000 viewings on TradeMe and another 12,000 on realestate.co.nz,” Gluestein says. “There were 140 groups through on that first weekend. Huge numbers of architects came through, and students, and they all loved it. Standing there during the open homes, I could see how very well respected Rewi was, and his house also. People love the design.”
