PHOTO: ABIGAIL DOUGHERTY/HOMED Judy Machin, owner of the grand homestead where she has established the Peace and Plenty Inn, has put the property on the market, so she can head south to start a new project.

Judy Machin came to New Zealand from England 18 years ago, bought a magnificent waterfront homestead in Devonport, and in less than two decades established one of the most celebrated B&B businesses in Auckland.

At 78, Machin is still running the Peace and Plenty Inn herself, but she has decided it’s time to sell and move on.

There’s no retirement village looming, however. Machin has her heart set on a new project – she’s moving to Arrowtown where she plans to erect a barn using original timbers shipped from Texas.
