Just in time for Christmas, the former All Blacks and Highlanders halfback, Aaron Smith, has successfully sold his elegant Dunedin residence. The four-bedroom, two-bathroom home on Cliffs Road in St Clair was sold through negotiation after an unsuccessful auction earlier this month.

At the Bayleys auction in early December, five bidders vied for the property, but it was passed in at $1.585 million after a total of 11 bids. Following the auction, Bayleys listing agent Rob Bevin mentioned that they were pleased with the number of unconditional bidders and were actively working with several to finalize deals.

The OneRoof listing has been updated to reflect the sale, although the specific sale price for the tastefully renovated home remains undisclosed. Smith and his wife, Teagan Voykovich, acquired the house in early 2022 for $1.4275 million and subsequently undertook upgrades and extensions.

Described by agents Rob Bevin and Marika Bevin-Jukes as a luxury coastal paradise, the property boasts mesmerizing panoramic views and sophisticated interiors. The deck offers stunning views, making it a major selling point.

The property was marketed as a refined living experience in an unrivaled location. Bevin emphasized that while Aaron Smith’s celebrity added appeal, it was the house itself that captivated potential buyers.

Most interest came from Dunedin residents, with a notable exception of an Aucklander expressing interest in the sought-after St Clair suburb. Bevin highlighted the value proposition of Dunedin, stating that money goes further there compared to Auckland, estimating the Auckland equivalent of the property to be around $4 million.

The 1930s property, situated on a 776sqm section in upmarket St Clair, offers clear ocean views. The OneRoof listing emphasized the property’s unique features, including the master bedroom in the new extension, an open-plan kitchen with designer details, and seamless indoor-outdoor flow.

Aaron Smith, the most-capped All Blacks halfback, has signed a long-term contract with Toyota Verblitz in Japan, joining forces with Beauden Barrett.
