Judges are yet to determine the final winners of the 2020 Canterbury Architecture Awards, but there’s a shortlist that gives us a peep at some stunning projects.
The Canterbury branch of Te Kāhui Whaihanga New Zealand Institute of Architects (NZIA) says the Covid-19 lockdown has meant that site visits to shortlisted projects by juries around the country have been put on hold. Resumption of the visits or the adoption of alternative means of deciding award-winners are dependent on the national measures adopted to combat the pandemic.

But it’s clear, architects and builders in Canterbury have been busy over the past year or two, completing some of the most innovative architecture projects to come out of the region in years. And we’re told there was a record number of entries this year.
