A retro beach house that sold for $1.45m over its reserve price at a weekend auction has underscored Mountjoy Parade’s reputation as Lorne’s Golden Mile.
The four-bedroom house and separate two-bedroom flat was sold for the first time in 34 years at Saturday’s auction.
Great Ocean Road Real Estate, Lorne agent Ian Stewart said the 1030sq m property at 212 Mountjoy Parade, sold for $4.85m, the most expensive for a house on the strip.

More than 200 people watched the auction, where five bidders traded 164 bids.
Mr Stewart said the auction moved quickly from the $3m opening bid and the property was announced on the market at $3.4m.

He said the property offered an absolutely cracking location.
“It’s directly opposite the surfing point. If you had kids you’d be able to wave the tea towel when they were on a wave to signify that lunch was ready,” he said.
“You just look straight across the road at the drop-in zone.”
