PHOTO: Surf Brand Rip Curl Names First Female CEO in Its 52-Year History

Rip Curl chief executive Brooke Farris has never felt more at home on Victoria’s Surf Coast.

And it is by virtue of the iconic company she heads up, just moments from her home, and the happy life she has carved for herself in the beachside townships of Torquay and Jan Juc.

Remarkably, Rip Curl’s global business is still based in regional Victoria, where it was established 52 years ago.

The head office is in Torquay, just moments from the sweeping shore and exhilarating breaks of Bells Beach.

Farris, a Perth native, moved to the Surf Coast, about 100 kilometres south-west of Melbourne, in 2010.

The popular theory is that real estate prices double every 10 years, giving Farris a textbook period in which to witness her dreamy patch of Victoria evolve.

She was living an idyllic sea change, combing her work and home lives outside a major city, before there was an ambition and a buzzword for it, and pandemics were no more than an uncomfortable plotline in doomsday movies.
