A whopping 28 bidders lined up in the rain to vie for a largely uninhabitable Sydney home left vacant for the past 10 years but it was one of multiple shock sales this weekend
An inner Sydney terrace with crumbling walls, no inside bathroom and a backyard clogged with weeds turned into hot real estate when it went to auction Saturday.
The one-bedroom house on Abercrombie St in Darlington sold for $2.65 million and attracted 28 registered bidders. It was the first time the home, left vacant for 10 years, had come up for sale in 45 years.
Selling agent George Lattouf of Laing and Simmons-Merrylands said the high number of registered bidders was a sign the market was strong.
“They were making offers in the rain,” Mr Lattouf said. “It just shows, come rain, hail or shine, people are willing to bid.”
Mr Lattouf said his agency fielded more than 400 inquiries for the property via email alone and more than 40 contracts of sale were issued. Close to 100 groups of buyers inspected the property.
