Abbie Chatfield, host of F**kboy Island, has strongly criticized a group of Australian homeowners for their actions, which she claims are ruining homes rich in character. In a series of videos shared with her nearly 480,000 Instagram followers on Wednesday night, the former reality TV star expressed deep concern about the growing trend of Australians purchasing older homes only to demolish them and replace them with sleek, contemporary designs lacking distinctive features.

Expressing her disapproval, Chatfield lamented the destruction of beautifully crafted homes with unique characteristics, such as art deco houses from the 1920s to the 80s. She particularly highlighted features like exposed brick, cornices, wood paneling, and sunken living rooms that contribute to the charm of these properties.

Chatfield became visibly agitated when discussing a renovation page that had acquired a character-filled home with exposed brick and an “almost English-vibe.” She anticipated the likely outcome of such purchases, expressing concern that these homes would be rendered and painted stark Dulux white with a Color Bond roof.

The reality show host urged home renovators who prefer “boring homes” to seek out such properties rather than destroying homes with unique character. She emphasized her emotional response to the trend, revealing that it disrupts her sleep and induces anxiety and fear for the future.

In her impassioned plea, Chatfield suggested that sellers include clauses in contracts requiring buyers to preserve the character of the property. She concluded by advising those seeking new, plain homes to purchase them directly instead of altering and erasing the distinctive features of character-filled homes.

Despite her critique of such practices, it’s worth noting that Chatfield is currently involved in the renovation of her own $1.76 million Tamarama apartment in Sydney’s eastern suburbs. Additionally, she owns a $1.45 million bungalow in Byron Bay, situated in the privacy of the Northern Rivers hinterlands.
