AFL champion and I’m a Celebrity star Dale Thomas has sold his $2.5 million to $2.75 million Glen Iris home.
Now retired, the high-flying former Collingwood and Carlton champion-turned-TV star and now children’s book author listed the four-bedroom 1950s double-brick property he transformed into a luxury modern home back in November last year.
It was originally listed with $2.7 million to $2.9 million hopes but the asking price reduced to $2.5 million to $2.75 million, which Marshall White listing agent Chris Barrett said was “in line with market interest”.
An auction campaign was about to be launched with an auction date set for next month but Mr Barrett said the property was snapped up before the campaign even started.
“We were about to launch into a campaign but it ended up selling to a buyer that inspected it before Christmas. They put forward an offer that Dale and Natasha said, ‘That’ll do’,” Mr Barrett said.
Mr Barrett refused to be drawn on the price paid, citing confidentiality, but sources close to the deal say the property went for substantially over $2.5 million.
Even if the new owners — a local family — paid within last year’s asking price range, it’s safe to say Dale Thomas has made a tidy profit: property records show Thomas paid $859,000 in 2009.
He told Domain last year he was ready for a new chapter in his life.
