What do Australia’s rich-list set buy their wives for Christmas?
For Amber Symond, the wife of Aussie Home Loans founder “Aussie” John Symond, it looks like a $12.5 million investment property in Potts Point might have been left for her under the tree as it settled on Christmas Eve in her name for that price.
The 1890s-built house on dress-circle Challis Avenue was until recently known as the boutique hotel Simpsons, long run by lawyer Keith Wherry until it was removed from online bookings a few months ago.
In November, the residence was removed from property websites after a two-year sales campaign, but at the time neither Ken Jacobs, of Christie’s International, nor William Manning, of McGrath, would confirm it had sold despite suggestions it had finally found a buyer.
There are often many property settlements in the days before Christmas, prompting some agents to refer to the closing weeks of the year as “settlement season”.
