A falling apart terrace with rooms blocked off with tape attracted 18 registered bidders at auction and sold for millions despite needing an estimated $2 million in renovation work.

A crumbling terrace in Darlinghurst that onlookers described as a “sh*thole” sold for an unexpected $4.621 million at a crowded auction Saturday.

The bumper price for the home on Surrey St netted the surprised vendors more than $1 million over the guide price.

The former hoarder home was listed with roof damage and many of the rooms were cordoned off with danger tape. It was left empty for the past three years and it is understood little maintenance was done by the owner of three decades.

The four-level terrace was listed with a $3.6 million price guide but attracted more than 18 registered bidders when it went under the hammer.
