F45 gym founder Rob Deutsch has sold his Bronte beachfront home at auction this morning for a whopping $17.7m and a Luxe Listings Sydney star was there doing the bidding for the buyer.
With auctioneer Damien Cooley presiding, the Laing and Simmons Double Bay principal, D’Leanne Lewis, had opened the bidding for 12 Bronte Marine Drive at $14m and secured it at the end with a $150,000 knockout bid.
Alexander Phillips of PPD, Brad Pillinger of Pillinger and Ashley Bierman of Ray White Double Bay had been guiding $17.5m and Phillips said the result was “on the money … it’s about what he wanted”.
Other sources, though, said the result was below today’s reserve.

12 Bronte Marine Drive, Bronte, has sold for $17.7m at auction.
There were four registered, but just two competed. After Lewis’s opening $14m offer, the next bid was $15m.
Lewis countered with $200,000 more; her opponent came back with $800,000 taking it to $16m. The bids then bounced around a bit, with $200,000, $300,000, $50,000 and $100,000 all featuring.
None of the agents would reveal the identity of Lewis’s client, saying only it was a local family.
Deutsch had previously listed the property just before Covid hit in early 2020, but this time he had a motivation to sell.
The home was renovated after Deutsch bought the home for $11.2m in 2018.
The stylish kitchen.
In December 2020, he bought a block of flats at 56 Campbell Pde, Bondi Beach, for $20.65m, which he was planning to redevelop into a family home.
However, he’s now had a change of plan, and it’s back on the market with Raine and Horne’s Albert Sassoon and Ric Serrao with a $25m guide.
He’s now on the hunt for a family home closer to the harbour and is known to have been looking at several in Bellevue Hill.
Deutsch, who founded the gym franchise in 2012 (he stepped down as a director in June 2020 but remains a shareholder), had reinvented the Bronte four-bedroom residence with double garage since he bought it for $11.2m in 2018.
The cinema was part of the appeal.
12 Bronte Marine Drive, Bronte, had a three car garage, huge cocktal bar and wine cellar.
It had been listed with Phillips and Bierman in early 2020 without a guide, though the agents pointed to the then $16.8m record as an indicator.
They’d received two unconditional offers that weren’t accepted.
But it was pulled from the market after just three weeks amid assumptions the market was about to plunge as Covid hit.
It has four bedrooms.
Even the bathrooms have stunning views.
