Kerri-Anne Kennerley has sold her 1870s era Woollahra home for about $23m, telling friends it was too big for her.

The much-loved television and radio presenter, actor and singer had purchased the two-storey residence with her late husband, John Kennerley, for $2.49m at auction in 1997.

But she’d told friends recently: “If I get a silly price, I’ll consider it … it’s too big for me.”

Other friends said she was fed up with the pool maintenance and had no need for the self-contained studio.

An internal lift had been added in recent years above a rear three-car garage.

Turns out she got her “silly price”, with sources putting the result at between $22m and $23m. Although several prestige agents are known to have been through the property, the deal was done off-market with no sales agents involved.

It’s not known who the purchaser was.

John Kennerley, who died in 2019, had been a model train enthusiast and at one point there were train tracks at chest height and 50cm wide snaking through the house and outside by the pool.
