Paul, 22, explained on TikTok how she and her holiday group were “catfished” on Airbnb and “nearly robbed” while on a luxury trip to LA.

In her viral video, which now has 3.1 million views, Paul says she booked an AUD $7,016 per night apartment online thinking it was swanky, only to discover it was located in a “dodgy part of LA”. Watch the video above.

Paul was taking the trip with boyfriend Glenn Thompson, her brother Atis and his girlfriend Mikaela Testa.

She says they hired an Uber driver – a bright yellow Lamborghini Urus – as well as an Uber for their luggage.

The choice was as lush as you’d expect, however, when the driver started taking them through a “dodgy” area in LA, they began to have second thoughts about their decision.

“We pulled up to this apartment block where everything is barricaded off, the windows have…barricades on them. Everything’s barricaded,” Paul says.

“We pull up in a bright yellow Lamborghini…and the second we park…two people start circling our car.”

Paul says they were too scared to get out of the car so asked their Uber driver to take them to another location.

They were then driven around and found another expensive location to stay for their four-day trip – another swanky hotel that would cost them US$6000 for four nights.

“We’re like ‘F—. Six thousand dollars for four days? But you know what? It’s so beautiful, fine let’s do it’,” Paul recalls.

Except when they arrived at the room that was meant to house their party of four so comfortably, it was quite different to what the hotel staff had advertised.

“We go upstairs – it’s a one-bedroom, little tiny room…it looks super rundown,” says Paul.

When they called the reception staff to ask for a bigger room, the staff offered to provide a wheely bed.

Paul says after the debacle, she and her group decided to leave and were given a total refund, before finding another new hotel to stay in.

According to Paul, the accommodation was found on Airbnb. The company states on its site it is an actionable offence to misrepresent accommodation on the platform.

“You should not provide inaccurate location information, have incorrect availability, mislead people about the type, nature or details of your listing, substitute one listing for another, set up fake or fraudulent listings, leave fraudulent reviews, engage in deceptive pricing or fail to disclose hazards and habitability issues.”
