In the Supreme Renovation of the Year category, a character villa in Northcote Point, Auckland, by Create + Construct, won the regional Supreme Renovation of the Year Award, the Renovation over $2 million category, and a Gold Award.

This Northcote Point villa, originally built at the turn of the last century, underwent a complex and challenging renovation. The judges praised the accuracy in heavy detailing, the addition of skylights to flood internal spaces with light, and glazed steel cavity sliders for flexible space management.

The ensuite and bathrooms feature marble benchtops, detailed tiling, and Marrakesh lime plaster walls. The swimming pool, cantilevered on substantial piles, merges seamlessly with the harbour view.

The villa’s street façade was fully restored, maintaining its original appearance while concealing a modern architectural addition. The extension features a family room with a soaring gable ceiling lined with timber sarking and fully glazed walls, resembling a floating pavilion.

The kitchen showcases matching timbers, and a light-filled living space opens to a louvre-roofed deck, pool, and harbour view. Sloping cedar-lined ceilings, oak-crafted kitchen joinery, and built-in furniture enrich the living spaces, blending tradition with modern design
