The former Sunrise presenter Sam Armytage’s marriage to the horse breeding farmer Richard Lavender has, with the benefit of hindsight, come at a significant personal financial cost.
Her Burrawang weekender, Pear Tree Cottage, which she sold ahead of moving into Lavender’s farm at Berrima, has been onsold at a price that has stunned the Southern Highlands village.
The Burrawang weekender Sam Amytage sold in 2020 for $3.1m.
Armytage pocketed a bullish $3.1m in August 2020 from her sale, three months after the couple’s engagement and four months before their wedding.
But the cottage has onsold recently at nearly double the price – for $6m, which is a record price for acreage in the village.
The home has now sold for $6m.
It’s a record for acreage in the village.
The home was extensively upgraded in 2001.
Vendor Patsy Peacock, the talent recruitment veteran, has sold the 2ha holding to Max Johnston, the former chairman of Austcann, the ASX-listed company developing cannabinoid-derived therapeutic products, and his wife, Alice.
Pear Tree Cottage, a five-bedroom, four-bathroom homestead with wraparound verandas built in 2001, had been purchased by Armytage in 2017 for $2.2m.

Lavender bought his 40ha holding for $1,950,000 from Southern Highlands farmer Theo Onisforou in 2007.
It was announced this week that Armytage will be swapping roles with Natalie Gruzlewski as host of Channel 7’s Farmer Wants A Wife.
It follows Armytage’s role in 2022 as guest host, where she made occasional appearances to offer advice to the farmers and contestants.
Armytage sold her Bondi home to live with Lavender on his rural property, but retains a city bolthole at Rushcutters Bay and a Hyams Beach retreat.
