The year may have started in a downturn but it’s been another obscenely bumper year for the top end of the Aussie market.

It won’t surprise anyone that the top property sales of 2019 are dominated by Sydney properties.

But what is surprising is the top sale of the year and highest ever sale in Australian history isn’t a Harbourside mansion nestled against the homes of former prime ministers and tech billionaires.

It sits high in the sky with premium views atop the yet-to-be-completed One Sydney Harbour at Barangaroo.

The nine-bedroom penthouse was sold for more than $140 million in October, covering 1600sq m and including a private rooftop pool, spa and gym, with the main bedroom set to be bigger than most family homes.
