Rugby league legend Wally Lewis has sold his much-loved family home on the waterfront east of Brisbane, and in true King style, he’s managed to break a record in the process.

The NRL immortal no sooner listed his Birkdale residence for sale than it was snapped up and sold – property records show it was listed for only two days – and while the exact price has been kept under wraps, it has exceeded the previous street record set in 2016 when a house a few doors away sold for $2.1 million.

The deal was brokered by Brad McDonald, of First National Real Estate Bayside, who confirmed the contract on the house had been settled, but would not disclose the price, citing the Lewis family’s privacy.

The median house price for Birkdale is $567,500, according to the latest House Price Report data from Domain, although canal-fronting estates with stunning water views have been known to sell for millions of dollars. The highest sale in Birkdale is $5.55 million set in 2017, Price Finder records show.

The house is on a sprawling 1353-square-metre block in the Aquatic Paradise estate, a canal-front estate in the Redland City Council.
