The nation’s property market has experienced an unprecedented boom the likes of which we’ve never seen before.

However, in a year where record-breaking prices seemed to be an almost constant phenomenon, there was one home sitting atop the very highest echelon of Sydney’s property market that didn’t sell.

Coined ‘Australia’s finest home’, 325 Woolooware Road in Burraneer is, as its self-assigned moniker would suggest, more than likely the best property for sale in Australia today.

But how has it not sold? Why was the country’s ‘best home’ unable to secure a buyer.

Listed for sale in July last year, Nautilus, as it’s named, garnered huge amounts of attention at the time and was even rumoured to have attracted the eye of Hollywood star Chris Hemsworth.

Owned and built by the co-founder of Aussie tech firm Deputy, Steve Shelley, Nautilus’ construction cost $30 million and required 750 tradesmen, architects and engineers working non-stop for four years to create.

Shelley also had to purchase no less than four separate Port Hacking waterfront homes and demolish all of them, to provide the 4387-square-metres of space needed to create the colossal six-storey structure.

Features and unique selling points of the stunning seven-bedroom, 19-bathroom home are almost insurmountable, but some of the headline features are a two-lane championship bowling alley, a private beach and an underground tunnel and cave that does a great impression of a Bond villain’s lair (it’s actually a 20-car garage).

There are also three separate lifts, a wine tasting room, a 2000-bottle wine cellar, a home theatre room, a 25-metre lap pool and spa, a home gym and a yoga studio.
