When the\u00a0property spruiking AFR<\/a>\u00a0uses language like \u201cbloodbath\u201d, you know the housing situation in Melbourne has turned pear-shaped:<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s a bloodbath,\u201d said Emma Bloom, a buyers\u2019 agent for Morrell and Koren. \u201cThere\u2019s a big increase in the number of auctions where there is only one bidder, passed in without a bid, or being sold below expectations\u201d.<\/p>\n

A credit squeeze, rising rates and falling sentiment are contributing to clearance rates slipping below 50 per cent in Melbourne, the lowest in eight years and down more than 70 per cent for the same weekend last year\u2026<\/p>\n

Claudio Perruzza, a director of Biggin Scott, added: \u201cSlower sales means there is no buyer urgency\u201d\u2026<\/p><\/blockquote>\n
