ABC News<\/strong><\/p>\n<p class=\"first\">The Government&#8217;s first home loan deposit scheme is risky for first home buyers and unlikely to boost home ownership, some economists say.<\/p>\n<div class=\"inline-content wysiwyg right\">\n<div class=\"inner\">\n<h2>KEY POINTS:<\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>For up to 10,000 people, the Government will guarantee the additional amount needed to reach a deposit of 20 per cent<\/li>\n<li>Those first home buyers will be exempt from having to pay Lenders Mortgage Insurance<\/li>\n<li>Available for singles earning less than $125,000 a year or couples earning a combined income of less than $200,000<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>One of the policies the Coalition took to the election was a scheme to lower the amount first home buyers need to save to buy a property.<\/p>\n<p><a title=\"\" href=\"https:\/\/www.abc.net.au\/news\/2019-05-12\/pm-promises-cut-to-first-home-buyers-deposit\/11105408\" target=\"_self\">Announcing the policy,<\/a>\u00a0Prime Minister Scott Morrison said it would enable first home buyers to access the market with a deposit of only five per cent.<\/p>\n<p>The Grattan Institute&#8217;s Brendan Coates said the scheme did not guarantee first home buyers entry into the property market.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The reality is\u00a0<a title=\"\" href=\"https:\/\/www.abc.net.au\/news\/2019-05-14\/housing-policy-creates-winners-and-losers\/11111534\" target=\"_self\">we can only help first home buyers if someone loses,<\/a>\u00a0which means prices probably have to fall,&#8221;
