{"id":19024,"date":"2019-05-24T16:46:17","date_gmt":"2019-05-24T04:46:17","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/propertynoise.co.nz\/au\/?p=19024"},"modified":"2019-05-24T16:46:17","modified_gmt":"2019-05-24T04:46:17","slug":"there-are-80000-reasons-why-australias-property-market-will-struggle-to-bounce-back","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/propertynoise.co.nz\/au\/there-are-80000-reasons-why-australias-property-market-will-struggle-to-bounce-back\/","title":{"rendered":"There are 80,000 reasons why Australia&#8217;s property market will struggle to bounce back"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>PHOTO:\u00a0Australia&#8217;s property market may have an over-supply problem<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Australia&#8217;s ailing housing market got a triple tonic this week as\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.smh.com.au\/link\/follow-20170101-p51pw5\" data-track-relatedarticle=\"inarticlelink\">the RBA flagged interest rate cuts<\/a>, the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.smh.com.au\/link\/follow-20170101-p51pht\" data-track-relatedarticle=\"inarticlelink\">banking regulator eased lending criteria<\/a>\u00a0and the threat of tax changes that could have hurt property investment abated with\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.smh.com.au\/link\/follow-20170101-p51q4q\" data-track-relatedarticle=\"inarticlelink\">the government&#8217;s re-election<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>But there are at least 80,000 reasons to suggest there&#8217;ll be no rapid rebound as\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.smh.com.au\/link\/follow-20170101-p50ejz\" data-track-relatedarticle=\"inarticlelink\">the worst housing slump in a generation<\/a>\u00a0spreads deeper into the economy. That&#8217;s how many apartments were completed in recent years in Sydney &#8211; adding about 5 per cent to the housing stock &#8211; while Melbourne and Brisbane have also seen relatively large additions, according to the Reserve Bank.<\/p>\n<p data-gtm-vis-first-on-screen-6236702_632=\"10511\" data-gtm-vis-total-visible-time-6236702_632=\"4000\" data-gtm-vis-has-fired-6236702_632=\"1\">That raises the question: Who&#8217;s going to soak up all that new supply? On a recent Saturday morning in Wentworth Point, a suburb of high-rise apartments in west Sydney that largely sprung up during a five-year housing boom, the hordes of potential buyers seen at the peak
