ABC News: Liv Casben<\/strong><\/p>\n<p class=\"first\">Stine Baska moved into her Epping home two years ago.<\/p>\n<p>Back then, a display office across the road was advertising a new apartment complex nearby.<\/p>\n<p>A group of houses had been fenced off and were set to be demolished to make way for the development.<\/p>\n<p>Ms Baska even received a glossy brochure of what the units would look like.<\/p>\n<p>Today, the fence and the homes are still there, but the display office is gone.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Nothing has happened,&#8221; Ms Baska told the ABC.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;It&#8217;s a shame.&#8221;<\/p>\n<div class=\"inline-content wysiwyg right\">\n<div class=\"inner\">\n<h2>Key points:<\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>There has been a 36 per cent drop in apartment approvals over the year to April<\/li>\n<li>Projects put on hold have increased by 110 per cent in the past year<\/li>\n<li>Developers say they&#8217;re now looking at commercial construction over residential<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>The spotlight is on Sydney&#8217;s construction industry after an\u00a0<a title=\"\" href=\"https:\/\/www.abc.net.au\/news\/2019-06-15\/mascot-towers-evacuation-leaves-residents-in-tears\/11213422\" target=\"_self\">apartment block in Mascot was evacuated<\/a>on Friday night over concerns about cracks in its basement beams.<\/p>\n<p>It comes amid\u00a0<a title=\"\" href=\"https:\/\/www.abc.net.au\/news\/2019-06-16\/mascot-towers-owners-to-pay-for-repairs\/11214328\" target=\"_self\">calls by the property industry<\/a>\u00a0for greater scrutiny and inspections of new developments.<\/p>\n<p>READ MORE VIA<a href=\"https:\/\/www.abc.net.au\/news\/2019-06-17\/sydney-experiencing-slowdown-in-apartment-construction\/11205010\"> ABC<\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>PHOTO:\u00a0Epping resident Stine Baska lives near a halted project.
