Photo: DANHOCKING.COM.AU <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.domain.com.au\/4-periwinkle-place-cape-paterson-vic-3995-2015000150\">Victorian ecodevelopment The Cape<\/a>&nbsp;has won the approval of sustainability experts for its efforts to set a new standard for low-carbon and low-energy living.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Homes in the estate are carbon-neutral, resilient in hot spells and have extremely low running costs,&nbsp;a study by RMIT University and not-for-profit RENEW released on Tuesday found.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cThe results coming out of the monitoring of The Cape and other sustainable housing examples demonstrate this is the type of housing we need to be moving towards,\u201d said&nbsp;Trivess Moore of RMIT\u2019s Sustainable Building Innovation Laboratory, adding he was impressed with the project.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cWe can now replicate it anywhere. They\u2019ve put a number of their house designs freely online.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cThere are some people who have just replicated the entire house from the plan in other locations, and they have seen good results too.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">It comes as the Clean Energy Finance Corporation last week revealed it would&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.domain.com.au\/news\/clean-energy-finance-corporation-launches-first-green-home-loan-with-rates-as-low-as-2-44-per-cent-920725\/\">give out cheap home loans for houses that meet a 7-star rating<\/a>, a move&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.domain.com.au\/news\/green-home-loans-experts-welcome-scheme-for-energy-efficient-builds-but-call-for-more-retrofitting-920894\/\">welcomed by housing experts<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Cape director Brendan Condon said the homes were so efficient some residents made it through heat waves without needing to turn on air conditioning.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cThese highly energy-efficient systems can eliminate energy bills and eliminate carbon emissions, increase comfort and let residents live to a high standard,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">READ MORE VIA <a href=\"https:\/\/www.domain.com.au\/news\/the-cape-ecodevelopment-should-be-the-national-standard-for-a-zero-carbon-climate-resilient-future-experts-say-922298\/\">DOMAIN<\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>PHOTO: A 10-star home in The Cape.
