{"id":23457,"date":"2020-02-02T09:06:52","date_gmt":"2020-02-01T20:06:52","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/propertynoise.co.nz\/au\/?p=23457"},"modified":"2020-02-02T09:07:03","modified_gmt":"2020-02-01T20:07:03","slug":"good-intentions-big-limitations-what-experts-really-think-of-the-first-home-loan-deposit-scheme","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/propertynoise.co.nz\/au\/good-intentions-big-limitations-what-experts-really-think-of-the-first-home-loan-deposit-scheme\/","title":{"rendered":"Good intentions, big limitations: What experts really think of the First Home Loan Deposit Scheme"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>PHOTO:  First-home buyers are unlikely to find free-standing houses under the scheme&#8217;s price limits within 15 kilometres of the Sydney or Melbourne CBDs. <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-drop-cap wp-block-paragraph\">All the initial places in the federal government\u2019s First Home Loan Deposit Scheme have been snapped up, as new borrowers rush to take advantage of record-low interest rates and the renewed vigour in the property market.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The first 3000 scheme positions released to National Australia Bank and the Commonwealth Bank have already been reserved, according to spokespeople from both banks.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">A NAB spokesperson said: \u201cWe have a customer waitlist for positions as they become available. We continue to work with the National Housing Finance and Investment Corporation as it makes a further 7000 places available from 1 February.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Of those spots, 2000 places will be shared between NAB and CBA. A further 5000 loans will be made available through&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.nhfic.gov.au\/what-we-do\/fhlds\/how-to-apply\/\">smaller lenders.<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Good intentions, big limitations<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Despite the FHLDS\u2019s popularity, experts point to its limitations. \u201cThe scheme has good intentions, in that it is designed to help people get the deposit together they need to buy their first home,\u201d says financial services firm Pitcher Partners\u2019 client director, Jason Fallscheer. \u201cIt can take years to save the deposit even for a modest property.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">READ MORE VIA <a
