Commonwealth Bank followed suit within minutes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/static.ffx.io\/images\/$zoom_0.354%2C$multiply_0.3541%2C$ratio_1.776846%2C$width_1059%2C$x_0%2C$y_0\/t_crop_custom\/q_86%2Cf_auto\/4d40b32a782589a65ced4d61c57985e661113ac3\" alt=\"Markets had been expecting the quarter of a percentage point cut.\"\/><figcaption>Markets had been expecting the quarter of a percentage point cut.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Following its first meeting since turmoil on global equity and bond markets wiped trillions of dollars from company values, RBA governor Philip Lowe said the coronavirus had clouded the near-term outlook for both the global and Australian economies.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">&#8220;The coronavirus outbreak overseas is having a significant effect on the Australian economy at present, particularly in the education and travel sectors,&#8221; he said. &#8220;The uncertainty that it is creating is also likely to affect domestic spending.
