{"id":24194,"date":"2020-03-20T10:02:54","date_gmt":"2020-03-19T21:02:54","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/propertynoise.co.nz\/au\/?p=24194"},"modified":"2020-03-20T10:02:59","modified_gmt":"2020-03-19T21:02:59","slug":"rba-cuts-rates-to-lowest-level-introduces-unconventional-measures-what-does-this-mean","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/propertynoise.co.nz\/au\/rba-cuts-rates-to-lowest-level-introduces-unconventional-measures-what-does-this-mean\/","title":{"rendered":"RBA cuts rates to lowest level, introduces \u2018unconventional\u2019 measures: what does this mean?"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>PHOTO:  Reserve Bank<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>What has the RBA announced?<\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-drop-cap wp-block-paragraph\">At an emergency board meeting on Thursday the Reserve Bank cut the official interest rate to 0.25 per cent, which is the&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.rba.gov.au\/speeches\/2019\/sp-gov-2019-11-26.html#application-to-australia\">lowest level<\/a>&nbsp;the cash rate can go. The cash rate cut was&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.rba.gov.au\/media-releases\/2020\/mr-20-08.html\">just one part<\/a>&nbsp;of a \u201ccomprehensive package to support the Australian economy through this challenging period\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The RBA also announced it is implementing \u201cyield curve control\u201d and \u201cforward guidance\u201d&nbsp;to provide further stimulus to the economy. The RBA will target a three-year bond rate of 0.25 per cent (yield curve control) and \u201cwill not increase the cash rate target until progress is being made towards full employment and it is confident that inflation will be sustainably within the 2\u20133 per cent target band\u201d (forward guidance).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The RBA will also set up a funding facility for the banking system, with a focus on credit supply to small and medium-sized businesses and increase the interest rate on banks\u2019 deposits held with the RBA<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">These measures will take effect&nbsp;immediately.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>What is yield curve control and what\u2019s the aim?<\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In normal times the RBA adjusts the cash rate in response to changing economic conditions.
