Picture: Gaye Gerard <span class=\"image-source\"><em>Source: News Corp Australia<\/em><\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Nervous homeowners who were scared they did \u201cthe wrong thing\u201d by selling their property were in tears at their auction after getting unexpected bids that onlookers said were \u201cnuts\u201d.<\/p>\n<p class=\"description\">A Ryde couple anxious about selling their home due to COVID-19 got nearly $2 million for the property at auction, netting them $345,000 above their reserve price.<\/p>\n<div class=\"story-content\">\n<p>The auction for the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.realestate.com.au\/property-house-nsw-ryde-133641954\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener noreferrer\">Greene Ave\u00a0<\/a>home of Sam and Nathan Moscato attracted 21 registered bidders and a crowd of close to 100 people spread across both sides of the street.<\/p>\n<p>The hammer dropped at $1.945 million, but selling agent\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.realestate.com.au\/agent\/michael-dowling-1269727?cid=agent-profile-page|buy:pdp:contact-side-panel\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener noreferrer\">Michael Dowling\u00a0<\/a>of McGrath-Ryde said the vendors had considered $1.7 million a \u201cdream price\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>The three-bedroom house on a 728sqm block was marketed with a $1.55 million to $1.65 million price guide.<\/p>\n<div class=\"w650 h365 image media kskd-media\" data-kiosked-context-name=\"kskdUIContext_01eb4tzae078sqqjxsyd3g5k2d\">\n<div class=\"image-wrapper\"><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" class=\" image-loaded\" src=\"https:\/\/cdn.newsapi.com.au\/image\/v1\/58d040e83cc94af5ff86e970ae9ee185?width=650\" alt=\"Auctioneer Max Wylie received an opening bid of $1.63 million. We never expected it to go like that.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Ms Moscato told the Sunday Telegraph she was feeling nervous prior to the auction but started to feel better when a strong opening bid was placed.<\/p>\n<p>Auctioneer Max Wylie received an offer of $1.63 million from a buyer\u2019s agent immediately after launching the auction, which he said was an attempted \u201cknockout
