{"id":33493,"date":"2021-07-20T10:27:02","date_gmt":"2021-07-19T22:27:02","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/propertynoise.co.nz\/au\/?p=33493"},"modified":"2021-07-20T10:27:02","modified_gmt":"2021-07-19T22:27:02","slug":"almost-one-third-of-australians-face-rental-or-mortgage-stress","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/propertynoise.co.nz\/au\/almost-one-third-of-australians-face-rental-or-mortgage-stress\/","title":{"rendered":"Almost one-third of Australians face rental or mortgage stress"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>PHOTO: Almost a third of Australians are facing rent or home loan stress, according to Finder&#8217;s Consumer Sentiment Tracker.\u00a0<span class=\"photographer\">Photo:\u00a0iStock<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p class=\"first-para\">Almost a third of Australians say they face mortgage or rental stress amid the ongoing coronavirus pandemic, with household savings also taking a hit in recent months.<\/p>\n<p>Against a backdrop of rapidly rising property prices and record-high rents across much of the country, 31 per cent of people are struggling to make their rent or home loan payments, new figures show.<\/p>\n<p>While this is down slightly from 33 per cent of renters and home owners in June, it\u2019s well up on the 23 per cent of respondents who reported rent or home loan stress in July last year. Photo: Finder\u2019s Consumer Sentiment Tracker<\/strong><\/em><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p class=\"p1\">Graham Cooke, head of consumer research at Finder, said financial stress had been going in the opposite direction to what might be expected, with stress levels down last year, despite the coronavirus pandemic.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">\u201cThis shows that the government payments were effective in relieving some of the financial pressure resulting from the first lockdowns,\u201d Mr Cooke said.
