is\u00a0pleading with the NSW government to help break their contracts after purchasing off-the-plan units in\u00a0a Parramatta development where defects were recently discovered.<\/p>\n<section class=\"_1uHEE _2Mryn _3fXyV _19G7j _2wBlx\" role=\"contentinfo\" aria-label=\"key points\" data-component=\"KeyPoints\">\n<h2 class=\"_1BrKg _1MOAE _3XvRm _3qPMD _1ehlr _2Od9e _582YK _2eB4R _3Z8IO\" data-component=\"Heading\">Key points:<\/h2>\n<ul class=\"_29Vqe\" role=\"list\" data-component=\"List\">\n<li class=\"\" data-component=\"ListItem\">Buyers fear changes to the orders imposed on the developer will strip their rights to break the contract<\/li>\n<li class=\"\" data-component=\"ListItem\">Building inspectors found problems with waterproofing, structural steel frame connections in the basement and fireproofing<\/li>\n<li class=\"\" data-component=\"ListItem\">The developer says defects will be rectified and &#8220;no purchaser will be disadvantaged&#8221;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/section>\n<p class=\"_1HzXw\">NSW Fair Trading issued developer Hassall Developments with a Prohibition Order\u00a0in early July, demanding the company rectify a number of defects in its Imperial Towers development\u00a0in Hassall Street, Parramatta.<\/p>\n<p class=\"_1HzXw\">Many buyers had paid deposits of about 10 per cent for their new apartments, up to five years ago.<\/p>\n<p class=\"_1HzXw\">While a Prohibition Order was issued by NSW Fair Trading on July 1, preventing the developer from registering a strata plan, it was replaced three weeks later with an order that did not contain that specific clause.<\/p>\n<p class=\"_1HzXw\">The change paved the way for the developer to be able to register a strata plan by the end of the month, making the contracts binding within 14 days.<\/p>\n<p class=\"_1HzXw\">Cynthia Huang paid tens of thousands of dollars in 2016 for a deposit on her dream apartment in the twin-towers development and said she was devastated when she first heard there were problems with the buildings.<\/p>\n<p class=\"_1HzXw\">&#8220;I saved for a long time for this and for my future home,&#8221; she said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"_1HzXw\">&#8220;Those defects are about structural problems that can cause safety hazards and I can&#8217;t imagine how this could happen to me.&#8221;<\/p>\n<figure class=\"_2FoxC _3fXyV was re-issued, allowing the developer to register the strata plan.<\/p>\n<p class=\"_1HzXw\">&#8220;I felt protected by the initial order but when I saw the second [order]\u00a0I was disappointed and stressed,&#8221; she said.<\/p>\n<aside class=\"_3fXyV _19G7j _2kQVP\" data-component=\"Pullquote\">\n<p class=\"_1HzXw\" style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong>&#8220;We as a buyer can&#8217;t say no to the contract.&#8221;<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/aside>\n<p class=\"_1HzXw\">Ms Huang said she was not able to terminate the contract and receive a refund for her deposit, nor could she move into her
