{"id":34604,"date":"2021-09-17T13:54:06","date_gmt":"2021-09-17T01:54:06","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/propertynoise.co.nz\/au\/?p=34604"},"modified":"2021-09-17T13:54:06","modified_gmt":"2021-09-17T01:54:06","slug":"real-estate-agent-ordered-to-pay-more-than-22000","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/propertynoise.co.nz\/au\/real-estate-agent-ordered-to-pay-more-than-22000\/","title":{"rendered":"Real estate agent ordered to pay more than $22,000"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>PHOTO: Your Future Property Management<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>A property management company has been fined $10,000 and ordered to pay compensation of $12,360 to consumers who were out of pocket after being charged for services they didn\u2019t want and which they hadn\u2019t authorised.<\/p>\n<p>Attorney-General and Minister for Justice Shannon Fentiman said Asset Realty Pty Ltd (previously Your Future Property Management) pleaded guilty in the Southport Magistrates Court on 13 September 2021 to charges laid by the Office of Fair Trading.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cQueenslanders shouldn\u2019t be charged for services they don\u2019t sign up for,\u201d Minister Fentiman said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis case is a timely reminder for <a href=\"https:\/\/propertynoise.co.nz\/au\/?s=real+estate+agents&amp;submit=Search\">real estate agents<\/a> to check they have been correctly appointed and all their paperwork is up to date before they charge fees for their services.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cReal estate professionals hold a position of trust and work with large sums of other people\u2019s money, so it is essential they are scrupulous in their actions at all times.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe OFT will continue to investigate and take action against any real estate agent who is not doing the right thing by their clients.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The court heard that the company was never properly appointed to manage one property but had deducted fees and expenses for managing the property for almost 10 years. They also charged two clients $66 a year for a debt management and collection service that they had expressly opted not to subscribe to.<\/p>\n<p>READ MORE VIA <a
