\u2018That view is what it\u2019s all about,\u2019 the auctioneer said as he sold an old home for a whopping $14.36m under the hammer.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

The result was about $3m above expectations.<\/p>\n

The circa 1925 five-bedroom residence at\u00a02 Gilliver Ave, Vaucluse<\/a>, had attracted 14 registered bidders to the online auction and, as Jesse Davidson had advised, the iconic harbour outlook \u2014 taking in both the Bridge and Opera House and city skylne \u2014 from both levels is what attracted them.<\/p>\n

It has been the home of Diana Newton and her late husband Neil Newton, a District Court Judge, for 61 years \u2014 their whole married life.<\/p>\n

Richardson and Wrench Double Bay principal Michael Dunn and Andrew Birbeck couldn\u2019t discuss the huge result or name the buyer when contacted, but it\u2019s known they\u2019d expected it to sell for between $11m and $12m.<\/p>\n
