class=\"_1HzXw\">It marks the western edge of the West Dapto Urban Release Area which will add 20,000 homes to the region, the equivalent of a city larger than Coffs Harbour.<\/p>\n<p class=\"_1HzXw\">The population shrank to just 141 in 2016, but all that is changing rapidly with about 450 homes now either completed or under construction, along with a new childcare centre and a general store with a cafe.<\/p>\n<p class=\"_1HzXw\">&#8220;The area really does still have its own identity,&#8221; says Terence Watts, owner\u00a0of the soon-to-open Smiths Lane Dairy store\u00a0and Wollongong wine bar The Throsby.<\/p>\n<aside class=\"_2X-83 g1U-R _1VIKT\" data-component=\"Pullquote\">\n<blockquote class=\"_2Bzft\">\n<p class=\"_1HzXw\">&#8220;It still has its own identity of that cute little suburb that is sitting under the mountains that&#8217;s really romantic and lovely.&#8221;<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<\/aside>\n<figure class=\"_2XhY1 _2X-83 g1U-R _3V6uS\" role=\"group\" specialist dairy products.<\/p>\n<p class=\"_1HzXw\">&#8220;We have got a really big focus obviously with the history of the dairy with selling loads of cheeses from places like Pecora Dairy, Cupitt&#8217;s in Ulladulla, the Tilba [Real] Dairy and loads of other smaller cheese producers like the Pines in Kiama as well,&#8221; he said.<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"_3HiYf _2K_6X _1cBaI _2b-O4 _2yZBa _3I3Xh _2uBSR _10YQT _1lh6E\" data-component=\"Heading\">Rich mining history<\/h2>\n<p class=\"_1HzXw\">It&#8217;s a monumental shift from the area&#8217;s main history as a coal mining town.<\/p>\n<p class=\"_1HzXw\">Historian Glenn Mitchell says early works on the mine were carried out by Wollongong businessman Andrew Lang in the late 1800s, but things really started to take off when the Hoskins family, owner of the Lithgow Steelworks, bought the mine.<\/p>\n<p class=\"_1HzXw\">&#8220;When Hoskins buys the mine in 1915, 1916 he&#8217;s got capital and he&#8217;s got technological
