The couple were well acquainted with the suburb, having rented a luxury home there.

Rather than undertake a renovation or rebuild, their initial request to Willoughby Council is a “vegetation management application.”

The application comes under the Environmental Planning Assessment Act 1979 and costs $221.50 and requires ‘a full copy of the plans including site survey, drainage plans to be submitted with this Vegetation Management Application showing tree/s to be trimmed/removed’.

The couple want to remove one tree from the rear of the property, which they put up for rent last September at $1800 a week.

According to the Vegetation Management Application ‘Where Council consents to the removal of an existing tree, it will require the replanting of trees at a rate of 3:1’.

So, the Stefanovics might be after the services of an arborist or a landscape gardener, or both.

The elevated rear garden also comes with a spa and gazebo.
