Picture: Channel 9\/A Current Affair<\/strong><\/p>\n<div class=\"description g_font-long-format\">\n<p class=\"story-block__standfirst\">A couple\u2019s plans for their dream home has turned into a nightmare after their neighbour was allowed by council to build shockingly close to their property.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p>Kathy Morin and Devon Matsalla are in the process of constructing their home on the <a href=\"https:\/\/propertynoise.co.nz\/au\/?s=Gold+Coast&amp;submit=Search\">Gold Coast<\/a>\u2019s Coomera Waters \u2013 however, the project has ground to a halt after the neighbouring property was built just 40cm away,\u00a0<i><a class=\"body-link\" href=\"https:\/\/9now.nine.com.au\/a-current-affair\/tight-40cm-squeeze-delivers-blow-for-gold-coast-couples-dream-home\/4ccb607e-b263-45c6-97d3-2b050a68c552\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">A Current Affair<\/a><\/i>\u00a0reports.<\/p>\n<p><iframe title=\"Family furious after homes built just centimetres apart | A Current Affair\" width=\"1380\" height=\"776\" data-src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/nJ5Yebddo64?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" allowfullscreen src=\"data:image\/svg+xml;base64,PHN2ZyB3aWR0aD0iMSIgaGVpZ2h0PSIxIiB4bWxucz0iaHR0cDovL3d3dy53My5vcmcvMjAwMC9zdmciPjwvc3ZnPg==\" class=\"lazyload\" data-load-mode=\"0\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>The gap between the two properties is now so tiny that builders have been unable to construct scaffolding between the two.<\/p>\n<p>The couple have since filed a complaint with Gold Coast City Council, with Mr Matsalla saying he was \u201cshocked and very confused\u201d by the situation.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSomehow it got approved through the chain, I don\u2019t know how it got approved, our builder has no idea, how it got approved,\u201d Ms Morin told\u00a0<i>A Current Affair.<\/i><\/p>\n<p>The other legally-built property, which is owned by Dreamworld CEO Greg Yong, is now within touching distance of his neighbours.<\/p>\n<p>Mr Yong told the program his house had been certified.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe wouldn\u2019t have been able to build it if it wasn\u2019t certified,\u201d Mr Yong said.<\/p>\n<p>Ms Morin and Mr Matsalla said they held a meeting with Mr Yong to raise their concerns about the properties\u2019 proximity.<\/p>\n<p>The following day they say Mr Yong\u2019s planning company submitted a subsequent document claiming the extension \u201cwill not undermine the amenity of the adjoining property\u201d.<\/p>\n<div class=\"media image kskd-media\" data-kiosked-context-name=\"kskdUIContext_01grf12dtdyw6yn1qj4bmtrkhj\">\n<div class=\"responsive-img\" data-desiredimagesize=\"block_large_image\"><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"responsive-img_img inline-image ls-is-cached lazyloaded\" src=\"https:\/\/content.api.news\/v3\/images\/bin\/45fe018c55dbe28cd58a44371582fe44\" sizes=\"(max-width: 600px) 100vw, (max-width: 1000px) 50vw, 650px\" alt=\"These Gold Coast homes were built just 40 centimetres apart.
