A real estate agent\u2019s unsolicited email to a Sydney<\/a> homeowner boasting about the area\u2019s booming housing market has backfired online.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

The agent, from the Hills District, sent the email to let the homeowner know about a recent sale in a bid to entice them to consider selling their own property.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe family bought the home in 2020 for $980,000 and sold it on Tuesday for a massive $1,750,000,\u201d the agent wrote.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe are seeing a shortage of stock and still a huge demand in the 2155 postcode.<\/p>\n

\u201cWould you like to know how much your home has gone up by?\u201d<\/p>\n

But the message backfired, with the homeowner taking to Reddit to side with Aussies struggling to break into the market.<\/p>\n

\u201cCongrats to the family, but f*** I feel sorry for people who are saving for a house,\u201d the homeowner who received the email wrote.<\/p>\n

\u201cThat\u2019s an extra $145,000, on top of the original $200,000, you would need to save in three years for the deposit.\u201d<\/p>\n

The post resonated on social media, with dozens of users slamming the agency\u2019s tactics.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis kind of boasting about the value of a house pisses me off to no end. We\u2019ve got people sleeping in the streets, and families that can afford to own a house for two years just to make bank,\u201d one wrote.<\/p>\n

\u201cCelebrating massive wealth accumulation only works if most people in society believe that could be them someway. Nowadays the carrot is accelerating away so quickly people aren\u2019t bothering to pretend they can ever catch it. It just seeds unrest,\u201d added a second.<\/p>\n

Others lamented how unattainable property has become in Sydney.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe fact the deposit on the average Sydney home costs more than my 2-bedroom, brick house on \u00bd acre block with a full sized garage in medium sized country town (14,000 population) is what\u2019s ruining Australia.\u201d<\/p>\n

Another described the market as \u201cso f***ed they don\u2019t need to do home opens to sell, they will get the offers they need before the first home open\u201d.<\/p>\n

\u201cAustralian dream\u201d slipping away, house prices accelerating<\/b><\/p>\n

The rebound in housing prices is\u00a0accelerating\u00a0despite the Reserve Bank\u2019s campaign to lift interest rates.<\/p>\n

National home prices have increased 0.33 per cent in May, bringing the 2023 rise to 1.55 per cent according to PropTrack\u2019s latest house price index.<\/p>\n

Every capital city except Darwin recorded an increase last month.<\/p>\n

These prices have frustrated many, particularly first home buyers, who feel incapable of attaining the great Aussie dream.<\/p>\n

According to Proptrack, preliminary sales on realestate.com.au for the Hills District were 14% higher this autumn (March to May 2023) compared to autumn last year (March to May 2022).<\/p>\n
