The property market failed to take a breather over the Christmas holidays, building on an already strong spring. 

According to QV’s property index index, house values rose 0.9 per cent in December, and 4 per cent during the year, thanks to a strong pick up since September, particularly in Auckland.

CoreLogic’s head of research Nick Goodall said the recovery in Auckland meant that market had clawed back almost everything it had lost over the year.

Key drivers were low unemployment, low interest rates and a continuing lack of houses on the market.
