A solo dad who advertised a room in his home for $50 per week in exchange for help with childcare has found a flatmate.
South Auckland man Chris, who didn’t want his last name used, received about 50 responses to his Trade Me listing offering cheap rent to a woman willing to walk his 10-year-old daughter to school.
But only six of the applications were from people he believed to be up to the task.
“These types of ads attract a certain type of people and they’re not always the most responsible people,” he said.
By Wednesday, he had found someone who was the right fit and the successful applicant, who works night shifts, had moved into Chris’ Papakura property.
But, instead of charging the woman $50 as advertised, Chris decided to give her the room for free.
