Perched high above Auckland‘s CBD, a stunning penthouse apartment awaits its next owner, offering unparalleled luxury and a unique personality.

For the first time in a decade, the 38th floor of the Metropolis tower is up for sale, priced at an impressive $10 million.

“This isn’t your typical home,” quipped Jayne Kiely, part of the Ray White Real Estate team responsible for finding a buyer for this extraordinary property.

Spanning 325 square meters, the penthouse features two expansive 70-meter decks, three bedrooms, four bathrooms, and top-tier security.

But the real allure of this apartment lies in its distinctive features, setting it apart from any other listing in New Zealand.

Inside the penthouse, over 100 square meters of marble floors cover a high-tech home wired with kilometers of cables that connect seamlessly to the owners’ devices. Fourteen televisions are cleverly hidden within the walls, revealed at the touch of a button, while doors blend seamlessly into the marble, opening with the same ease.

However, the most remarkable—and eccentric—feature of this apartment is hidden behind a frosted glass wall: a 1959 Bel Air Chevrolet. Its gleaming red body sits 38 floors above the nearest road, overlooking the Waitematā Harbour, but this car isn’t just for show.

With the press of a button, the car springs to life on a rotating platform. The roof lifts, and the trunk transforms into a queen-sized bed. “And apparently, it’s very comfortable,” Kiely joked.

The rotating car bed was airlifted by helicopter into the penthouse, where it was reassembled on one of the decks, complete with a cheeky “DIVORCE” license plate.

The rotating car bed had to be airlifted by helicopter into the penthouse.

“Everything you see is included, even the car—because I don’t think the owner wants to take it out,” Kiely explained.

The car is 38 floors away from the nearest road.

Despite all these lavish features, the true star of the penthouse is the breathtaking view. Every window offers iconic sights of Auckland, and from the western deck, you can even wave to visitors at the Sky Tower. “You can go out there and say, ‘Gidday, mate,'” Kiely added.

The apartment is designed for entertaining, featuring an infinity spa on one deck and a fire pit on the other. The Batman-themed decor adds a playful touch, with the superhero’s emblem on the security pad, elevator doors, and a large “Gotham City” decal in the lounge.

Is the owner a Batman fan? Not particularly. But he embraced the idea of a theme that ties the property together. “He’s just having a bit of fun. Everyone else has white pillows and throws. This is completely different, and if you can, why not?”

For the past decade, this penthouse has been a family home, meticulously designed by its ultra-private owner. With no prior interior design experience, he spent four years crafting this Batman-themed haven.

While most homes are designed with broad appeal in mind, this apartment is a deeply personal, high-end living work of art that reflects the owner’s life at the time.

Will someone fall in love with his creation? Perhaps. The next owner will likely bring their own multi-millionaire style, but hopefully, they’ll keep the car—it’s undeniably cool.
