The woman savagely mauled by dogs inside a NSW home has been identified by local media as Central Coast resident Joanne Hayes.

In a disturbing twist it has been revealed that she was a real estate agent who had arrived at the house on Australia Avenue in Umina Beach for a pre-booked inspection appointment at 10.15am on Thursday.

As she let herself in, the two bull mastiff dogs launched into an unrelenting attack, which ceased only when neighbours came to Ms Hayes’ aid, the Central Coast Gosford Express Advocate reported.

The 49-year-old was tended to by paramedics before being airlifted to Royal North Shore Hospital in a CareFlight Rapid Response Rescue Helicopter.

Ms Hayes had sustained a compound fracture to her arm and a laceration to her leg, arriving at hospital in a serious but stable condition.

The tenant returned home after hearing what happened and surrendered his dogs to the council rangers who had earlier been called to the scene.
