The McGrath CEO, with a stellar 40-year career in real estate, secured a stunning penthouse for a suburb record in an exclusive development featuring extraordinary 180-degree water views. Known for his discerning eye, McGrath paid $4.12 million for the three-bedroom apartment in Cabarita’s prestigious Avista development by renowned developer Mirvac at a February 1 auction, as confirmed by multiple sources.

This purchase shatters the previous apartment record in Cabarita, set at $4 million in September 2021 for a nearby penthouse. While McGrath wasn’t present at the auction, his former assistant-turned-buyer’s agent, Aladdin Hassen, represented him.

The auction guide had initially been in the high $3 million range, with intense bidding leading to a final price significantly above the reserve.

Sales agent Dib Chidiac confirmed the guide price was $3.7 million but declined to comment on the purchaser. Property records reveal the apartment last traded for $1.7 million in 2007.

Since selling his Walsh Bay penthouse to healthcare executive Jayne Shaw in 2019, McGrath has been renting in nearby Breakfast Point. Initially, he planned to purchase a house for his two dogs, but this pet-friendly apartment, described in listings as having “house-sized proportions” (263 sqm), perfectly suits his needs.

The apartment’s three bedrooms, all featuring built-in robes and great views, open to the outdoors. It boasts a 58 sqm terrace with space for a barbecue and a private central courtyard. The streamlined kitchen includes stone benches and premium appliances. Additional features are a home office with custom built-in shelving, ducted air-con, two security car spaces, lock-up storage, and convenient lift access.

Residents can enjoy luxurious amenities, including a swimming pool, gym, and community room. The property is quietly located in a premium resort community, just a short stroll from the harbourside foreshore, bus transport, and Cabarita ferry wharf.
