Australia’s most expensive streets have been revealed – and it’s largely a Sydney affair.
Property data company Suburb Trends has ranked the top 100 streets in Australia based on median house price, with more than half the neighbourhoods located in Sydney.
Of the 100 streets, 51 were in the harbour city while the top 27 were either in Sydney or Byron Bay.
Sydney has some of the most expensive streets in the country.
Streets from Vaucluse, Hunters Hill, Mosman and Manly made up many of the rankings, along with Byron Bay, Noosaville in Queensland and the popular Melbourne suburbs of Toorak and Brighton.
Hallstrom Close in Northbridge was ranked number one with a median house price estimate of $7,483,000 and an upper range of $9,012,400.
This house on Kings Rd in Vaucluse sold last year for $13.6m.
The tightly held cul-de-sac overlooks Middle Harbour while all houses on the street have a private jetty.
Next was Dunara Gardens in the prestigious suburb of Point Piper. The median house price estimate there was $7,290,000 while the upper range in value was $9,825,000.
The street features the heritage-listed birthplace and childhood home of infamous Australian poet Dorothea Mackellar, which was last sold in 1991 for $1.74m.
Third place went to Belah Ave in Vaucluse with a median value of $7,023,000 and an upper range of $7,365,400.
This house at Dunara Gardens, Point Piper sold for over $9m in 2021.
With the exception of Marine Place in Byron Bay coming sixth place, the top 10 was rounded off by streets in Vaucluse, including Belah Gardens, Beach Ave, John Dykes Ave and Parsley Rd.
Suburbtrends founder Kent Lardner said the ranking revealed the level of wealth around Sydney Harbour as well as in beachside suburbs – including lifestyle towns away from the hustle and bustle of the city.
“Byron Bay and Noosa suburbs represented around 20 per cent of the results which was rather surprising,” he said.
“It highlights how much wealth now sits outside of the top suburbs of the capital cities.”
This house on Marine Pde, Byron Bay sold for an undisclosed amount in 2020 after fetching $12m in 2019.
The ranking was determined by generating house price estimates in every street in Australia before filtering out streets where more than five house price estimates couldn’t be generated and where the median lot size was 2,000sq m or more.
Each street was then allocated to a statistical area with a cap of 10 streets per area then applied.
Suburbtrends also released a top 100 ranking for Sydney, which included 25 streets from Vaucluse, 18 streets from Mosman, three streets from Hunters Hill and 10 streets from Manly.
This house on Hallstrom Close in Northbridge sold for over $8m two years ago.
